Kalash, the stage name of Kévin Valleray, blends trap music with Caribbean influences in a way that feels distinctly his own. Born in Martinique and rooted in a sound that pulls from reggae, dancehall and ragga as much as it does from French rap, he carved out a lane that few others occupy. His album Kaos, released in 2016 on Capitol Records through Universal Music Group, climbed to number 4 on the French SNEP albums chart, announcing him as a serious force in the French music scene. He has built a reputation partly through sharp collaborations, most notably with heavyweights like Booba and Admiral T. The name Kalash is a nod to the Russian Kalashnikov rifle, which gives you a sense of the no nonsense, hard edged energy he brings to his music. His knack for fusing street rap with island rhythms keeps his sound fresh and genuinely hard to pin down.
