About

Kamerata Zuid is a string and wind orchestra from Tilburg that covers a lot of ground, from Holst's The Planets to Ludovico Einaudi, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin, as well as Dutch language pop classics. Their chamber sized format, mixing strings and woodwinds, keeps the sound intimate enough that every detail and nuance comes through clearly. The ensemble has collaborated with astronaut André Kuipers, pairing live performances of The Planets with his personal accounts of space travel, and with pianist and composer Iris Hond, who brings both Einaudi's iconic works and her own compositions to the programme. Kamerata Zuid also has a lighter, more participatory side. Their Grijs Gedraaid concept pairs the orchestra with singers to bring familiar Dutch language songs back to life in a live setting, with the audience actively invited to join in. The ensemble recently marked ten years of performing together, a milestone they celebrated with both a concert tour and a special festive edition of that crowd pleasing show.
