About
Also known as: Kamila Jubran, كميليا جبران
Kamilya Jubran spent two decades as the lead singer of Sabreen, the Arabic group based in East Jerusalem, where she became the only member born inside Israel. She joined in 1982, two years after the band formed, and stayed on until 2002. Along the way the group put out albums like Dukhan al Barakin, Mawt al Nabi, Jayy al Hamam and Ala Fein. After leaving Sabreen she moved to Europe and went solo, working with a range of European musicians. She plays the oud and qanun among other instruments, and her solo catalogue includes Wameedd, Makan, Wanabni and Nhaoul'. In 2013 she turned up as a guest on Calle 13's single Multi Viral, alongside Tom Morello and Julian Assange. A documentary called Telling Strings also followed her and her family.
