About
Karen Lovely did not start singing the blues for a living until September 2007, yet she had a debut album out by November 2008. Lucky Girl got things moving, and within two years she and her band took second place in the band category at the 2010 International Blues Challenge. That same year came Still the Rain on Pretty Pear Records. Her voice gets described as powerfully sultry, and her live shows as passionate and driven. The festival circuit has been kind to her, with slots at the Waterfront Blues Festival, the Britt Festival and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Green Show. Ten Miles of Bad Road (2015) was cut at Ultratone Studios in Studio City with Tony Braunagel producing and drumming, a heavyweight blues crew behind her, and Kim Wilson guesting on harmonica. Twelve of its thirteen tracks are originals, and the title song was inspired by Curtis Salgado. It helped earn her a 2016 Blues Music Awards nomination for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. Fish Outta Water followed in 2017, and her live clips from Los Angeles, Oregon and Germany show she plays well beyond home turf.
