About

Karl Seglem is a Norwegian saxophonist, bukkehorn player, composer and producer who has spent decades weaving together jazz and Norwegian folk traditions in a way few others have managed. The bukkehorn, an ancient instrument made from a goat or ram horn, became a serious obsession around 2000, and Seglem is now considered the world's leading player of it. He founded his own label, NorCD, back in 1991, which started as an outlet for his own work and has since grown into a home for both jazz and folk releases. His discography is impressively wide, covering collaborations with percussionist Terje Isungset in projects like Isglem and the trio Utla, as well as two albums made with poet Jon Fosse. He has toured extensively across Norway through programs like Rikskonsertene and Den norske jazzscene, and his prizes include the Gammleng Prize and the Edvard Prize, both in 1998. With releases like Nordic Balm and WorldJazz, his music consistently sits at the crossroads of contemporary jazz and world fusion.
