Katrine Madsen is a Danish jazz singer and composer from Aarhus who has built a career on both her own projects and rich collaborations. She studied at the Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium and released her debut album in 1996 with her own Swing Quintet. Since then she has worked alongside musicians like Ed Thigpen and Richard Boone, and formed the Katrine Madsen Sextet in 2002. Her album Box of Pearls, a take on Great American Songbook standards recorded with Swedish vocalist Svante Thuresson, and Close to You were both nominated for the Danish Music Prize in 2005 and 2006. She has also collaborated with the Bohuslän Bigband, the Baker Boys on Gershwin and More, and pianist Stefano Bollani, among others. The Danish Arts Foundation recognised her work with a two year composition grant.
