KATSEYE came together through a genuinely unusual route: a global audition that drew over 120,000 applicants, a joint venture between Hybe and Geffen Records, and a reality competition series called The Debut: Dream Academy that ultimately picked six members from the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States. The whole process was documented in the Netflix series Pop Star Academy: Katseye, directed by Nadia Hallgren. Their debut single landed in June 2024, and the follow up "Touch" broke them through to a wider audience. Their first EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), was made with collaborators including Ryan Tedder and Omer Fedi. Their second EP, Beautiful Chaos, debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 in June 2025, their strongest chart showing yet. The lead single "Gnarly" put them on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, and "Gabriela" pushed them into the top 40 of that chart while earning a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The group also picked up a Best New Artist nomination at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. Off the music side, their Y2K influenced aesthetic has pulled in partnerships with Fendi, Gap, Coach, Lush, and Jollibee, with Humberto Leon serving as creative director.
