About
Also known as: Katherine Woolley
Katy Woolley is one of those rare musicians who made it to the top of the orchestral world at a remarkably young age. She was just twenty two when she became Principal Horn of the Philharmonia Orchestra, a position she held for seven years before stepping back to pursue solo work and teaching. In 2019 she took on the Principal Horn chair at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, one of the most prestigious seats in classical music. She plays a hand hammered Alexander 103, a choice that says a lot about her commitment to the craft. Beyond her orchestral roles, Woolley has performed as a soloist with the London Mozart Players and the New York Philharmonic, and she puts serious energy into teaching. She is professor of horn at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and International Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, with masterclasses stretching across Europe, South America, and Asia.
