About
Also known as: Igor Ferreira
Kaya Conky is a drag singer who has helped push Brazilian pop into new territory, built on funk, high performance and a deliberately provocative look. Her album MARIA BOA is the more personal turn: ten tracks that bring in family, anxiety, friendships and self doubt alongside the vanity, ego and desire she was already known for. Funk stays at the centre, but it rubs up against house, dancehall, pop and rap, so the record is danceable and a bit unpredictable without losing her signature. The title comes from Natal, the city she was born in, and from Maria Boa, a businesswoman who ran one of its best known cabarets. Her story became a way for Kaya to think about sensuality, strength and independence. Creative director Brunna Vini shaped the visuals, with five of the tracks getting their own, mixing Natal's culture with the imagery fans already associate with her.
