About
Also known as: Kim Owens
Kem, born Kim Lamont Owens, built his career the hard way: he wrote, produced, and funded his debut album Kemistry on his American Express card while singing cover songs at weddings and waiting tables. Motown picked it up and re released it in 2003, and it went on to sell over half a million copies. His follow up Album II went Platinum, driven in part by the urban adult contemporary number one hit "I Can't Stop Loving You" and a track featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica. Working in the smoother, more intimate corners of contemporary R&B and neo soul, Kem has built a loyal audience through a string of Gold and Platinum records. He co wrote and produced for Ronald Isley, contributed a theme song to the Steve Harvey talk show, and earned Grammy nominations for "Why Would You Stay" and "Nobody". His fifth album Love Always Wins arrived in 2020, featuring a collaboration with Toni Braxton on "Live Out Your Love".
