About
Houston drummer Kendrick Scott has built a reputation as one of jazz's most in demand rhythmic voices, with a career that spans high profile sideman work and a serious body of recordings under his own name. His group Oracle has been the main vehicle for his composing, starting with the 2006 debut The Source, which brought together a remarkable cast including Robert Glasper, Aaron Parks, Lionel Loueke, and Gretchen Parlato. He went on to record A Wall Becomes a Bridge for Blue Note Records in 2019, cementing a relationship with one of the genre's most storied labels. Beyond his own projects, Scott has been a fixture alongside Terence Blanchard, including on A Tale of God's Will, the Grammy nominated Requiem for Katrina, and later as part of the Charles Lloyd Quartet with Reuben Rogers and Gerald Clayton. His sideman credits read like a who's who of contemporary jazz, taking in Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Dianne Reeves, and Kurt Elling among many others. He also founded World Culture Music, his own record label.
