Few names carry as much weight in house music as Kerri Chandler, the East Orange born DJ and producer widely considered a pioneer of the genre. His sound is rooted in the deep house and garage house tradition that came out of New Jersey clubs like the legendary Club Zanzibar in Newark, where he held a residency in the 1980s. Since his first release on Atlantic Records in 1991, he has put out well over 100 records, spanning everything from lush jazz tinged deep house to the more experimental Computer Games. Beyond his own productions, Chandler has built a serious infrastructure around house music through his labels. Madhouse Records in the UK brought in artists like Roy Ayers and Dennis Ferrer, while MadTech Records introduced newer acts to the scene. In 2016 he launched Kaoz Theory, releasing music from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and the Martinez Brothers. His 2022 album Spaces and Places showed he is still very much in the thick of it.
