Khalid burst onto the scene in 2016 with his debut single "Location", a track he wrote while still in high school in El Paso, Texas, and posted early work to SoundCloud before it took off. The song and its follow up "Young Dumb & Broke" both went diamond, and his debut album American Teen earned a quadruple platinum certification along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. He guest performed on Logic's "1 800 273 8255" alongside Alessia Cara, earning a Grammy nod for Song of the Year. Khalid kept up the momentum with a string of collaborations that dominated the charts. "Eastside" with Benny Blanco and Halsey, and "Love Lies" with Normani both broke records on the Mainstream Top 40. His second album Free Spirit debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with the lead single "Talk" becoming his highest charting solo song. On top of six Grammy nominations, he was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2019.
