About
Also known as: Kathia Buniatischvili, ხატია ბუნიათიშვილი
Khatia Buniatishvili was part of the lineup that played at the reopening of Notre Dame de Paris in December 2024, which tells you a fair bit about where she sits in the classical world. The Georgian and French pianist signed to Sony Classical in 2010 and has stayed there since, putting out a run of albums that moves easily between solo piano and big orchestral work. Her 2011 debut leaned into Liszt, with the B minor Sonata, Liebestraum No. 3 and Mephisto Waltz No. 1. A Chopin record followed in 2012, with the Orchestre de Paris and Paavo Järvi, and The Guardian called it playing straight from the heart. Since then she has recorded Rachmaninoff with the Czech Philharmonic, a Liszt and Beethoven disc with the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, a solo Schubert album, Labyrinth, and Mozart concertos with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Her sister Gvantsa is a pianist too, and the two have shared the stage many times.
