About
Also known as: Kiefer Shackelford
Kiefer is a pianist and producer who has spent his career blurring the line between a jazz club and a beat tape. He studied jazz at UCLA under Kenny Burrell, James Newton and Tamir Hendelman, and that is where he started pairing live improvisation with programmed electronic beats, a mix that still defines his sound. His 2017 debut Kickinit Alone caught Pitchfork's ear, which described its title track as a short piano phrase looping like it was ripped from a dusty vinyl. Stones Throw signed him the next year, and he has since put out Happysad, the EP trilogy of Bridges, Superbloom and Between Days, and the albums When There's Love Around and It's Ok, B U. He also co produced on Anderson.Paak's Grammy winning album Ventura, including lead single King James, and has made beats with Kaytranada and played alongside Terrace Martin and Moses Sumney. Memory Bomb is listed as his latest album.
