About
Coming out of Monterrey as part of the Avanzada Regia movement, Kinky blends alternative rock and electronica into something that sits equally well on a Latin American dance floor and a U.S. indie stage. Their breakout single "Más" is probably their most widely heard moment, turning up in Nissan commercials, the video games SSX 3 and Crackdown, the films Thirteen and Man on Fire, and even an episode of CSI: Miami. That kind of cross platform reach is rare, and it helped the band land a spot on the Unlimited Sunshine Tour alongside Cake, The Flaming Lips, and Modest Mouse. Over five studio albums they have kept pushing their sound around. Atlas went deep into alternative territory, Reina chased a harder electronic edge, and Barracuda, co produced with Beastie Boys collaborator Money Mark, sent them on a two year world tour. Their fifth record Sueño de la Máquina was produced by John King of the Dust Brothers, keeping the band's reputation for working with producers who genuinely shape a record rather than just polish it.
