About
Also known as: Kirill Rodin
Kirill Rodin is one of those cellists who has genuinely done it all: soloist with the Moscow State Philharmonic, member of the Tchaikovsky String Quartet, and a touring performer who has played across 50 countries on five continents. His repertoire spans Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, and even modern Chinese music, which gives you a sense of how far his musical curiosity stretches. He took first prize and a gold medal at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and a golden harp at the Jeunesses Musicales competition in Belgrade before that. Offstage, Rodin is a professor at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and has given masterclasses across Germany, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Japan, South Korea and China. He has also played chamber music as part of the Brahms Trio and the Schwingungen Trio, covering everything from Glinka to Arensky. He regularly sits on the jury at international cello competitions too, so his influence on the instrument goes well beyond his own performances.
