About
Konkhra's name itself tells you something about their personality: it comes from the guttural way Sodom's Tom Angelripper announces the song 'Conqueror' live. That kind of deep cut devotion runs through everything this Danish death metal band from Køge has done since forming in 1989. Their sound pulls from groove metal and thrash as much as pure death metal, giving it a heaviness that hits differently from the more clinical end of the genre. Their 1995 record Spit or Swallow, tracked at Stockholm's Sunlight Studio with Dismember drummer Fred Estby behind the boards, turned them into the best selling act on Progress Records and put them on the Roskilde Festival stage in front of around 10,000 people. The 1997 follow up Weed out the Weak brought in James Murphy and Chris Kontos, both veterans of Testament, and landed a Metal Blade release in the US. Murphy came back again for 2009's Nothing is Sacred. The band released Alpha and the Omega in 2019 and have kept the momentum going since.
