About

Founded in 1997 by Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer, Kremerata Baltica draws its musicians from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and has grown into one of the most distinctive chamber orchestras around. The Los Angeles Times once called them "extraordinary young players who animate everything their bows touch," and that energy shows up whether they're playing Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, or their own festival in Sigulda, Latvia. They clock around 70 concerts a year across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. What sets them apart is a genuine appetite for going beyond the standard repertoire. They've championed world premieres by composers like Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks, and Giya Kancheli, and their projects have taken some bold turns, from a human rights concert at the Berlin Philharmonie to a collaboration with Russian clown Slava Polunin and his Snowshow. Guest artists over the years have included Martha Argerich, Yo Yo Ma, Evgeny Kissin, and Sir Simon Rattle, among many others.
