About
Also known as: L' me Immortelle, L'ame Immortelle, L'Âme Immortelle, Lame Immortelle, L´âme Immortelle, Lâme Immortelle
L'Âme Immortelle translates from French as 'the immortal soul', which fits a band that has spent nearly three decades crafting melancholic darkwave with a distinctly gothic edge. The Austrian duo, built around vocalist Sonja Kraushofer and multi instrumentalist Thomas Rainer, became known for a striking contrast between harsh male vocals and Kraushofer's deeply emotive delivery, with lyrics split between German and English. Their catalogue leans into longing and heartbreak, and songs like '5 Jahre', 'Stumme Schreie' and 'Aus den Ruinen' became genuine fan favourites. Their story has a few interesting twists. A major label deal with a Sony BMG subsidiary around 2004 pulled them toward the heavier Neue Deutsche Härte sound, a noticeable shift from their electronic roots, but they later returned to their original label Trisol and gradually found their way back to the atmospheric, synth driven territory that built their reputation. By 2012 they had released their tenth studio album Momente, followed swiftly by Fragmente, a remix companion. Both Rainer and Kraushofer have also kept busy with solo projects on the side.
