About
La Dispute have been one of the more compelling acts in post hardcore since coming out of Grand Rapids, Michigan in the mid 2000s. What sets them apart is the combination of Jordan Dreyer's intensely literary vocals, equal parts spoken word and raw screaming, with music that pulls from emo, screamo and hardcore punk without sounding like any one of those things in particular. Their debut album, Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair, drew on an Asian folk tale about separated lovers as a loose framework for exploring universal struggles, and it landed them a serious critical following. Wildlife in 2011 pushed things further, and Rooms of the House in 2014 showed a band confident enough to strip things back and get even more emotionally direct. Panorama arrived in 2019, nearly five years after that, keeping the experimental thread alive. Their fifth studio album, No One Was Driving the Car, followed in 2025.
