Lars Danielsson is a Swedish jazz bassist, cellist, and composer whose restless musical curiosity has kept him at the centre of European jazz for decades. Based in Gothenburg, he plays double bass, electric bass, and cello, and has shared recording sessions with a remarkable range of players including John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, Charles Lloyd, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Tigran Hamasyan. In 1985 he pulled together a quartet with saxophonist Dave Liebman, pianist Bobo Stenson, and drummer Jon Christensen, a lineup that produced several albums and helped establish his reputation as both a bandleader and a composer worth paying attention to. Beyond performing, Danielsson has carved out a real presence as a producer, working with vocalist Cæcilie Norby and the Danish radio orchestra among others. His solo albums under the Lars Danielsson Quartet name have featured guests like Bill Evans, Kenny Wheeler, and John Abercrombie, making them something of a who's who of thoughtful, post bop minded jazz.
