About
Also known as: Lars Frederiksen And The Basta
Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards is the punk side project of Lars Frederiksen, guitarist of Rancid. The band formed after Frederiksen's Rancid bandmate Tim Armstrong suggested writing songs drawn from Frederiksen's own life, and the two ended up co writing the material together. Their 2001 self titled debut on Hellcat Records mixed originals with covers of Billy Bragg and Eddie Holland, and the track 'Dead American' even found an unlikely second life as wrestler Vampiro's entrance music on the independent circuit. The band returned in 2004 with Viking, also on Hellcat, a record Frederiksen considered more personal than the debut. It included a track originally intended for Rancid, 'Little Rude Girl', plus covers of The Blasters and Anti Nowhere League. Both albums got a fresh run on vinyl in 2017 through Pirates Press Records, which also put out Live and Loud!!, a live recording from a 2001 concert.
