About
Lars Ulrik Mortensen is one of the most respected harpsichordists in the early music world, with a career spanning solo recitals, chamber collaborations and conducting across Europe, the Americas and Japan. His recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations earned him a Diapason d'Or, and he has put out a substantial catalogue on labels including harmonia mundi, Dacapo and Kontrapunkt, covering everything from Buxtehude solo works to Telemann recorder sonatas. Beyond the recording studio, Mortensen has long been the artistic director of Concerto Copenhagen and has held the same role with the European Union Baroque Orchestra since 2004. He regularly directs opera at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen and has performed chamber music alongside singer Emma Kirkby, violinist John Holloway and cellist Jaap ter Linden. Denmark recognised his contributions with its top music honour, the Léonie Sonning Music Prize, in 2007.
