Las Migas have spent two decades proving that flamenco has room to stretch. The Barcelona quartet blends traditional flamenco forms with country, pop, bluegrass, jazz, rumba and more, and unusually for flamenco, all four members play instruments, write and compose their own material. That approach has earned them two Latin Grammy Awards for Best Flamenco Album, for Libres in 2022 and Flamencas in 2025. Their lineup has shifted quite a bit since founding in 2004, with alumni like Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Alba Carmona going on to notable solo careers. The 2024 album Rumberas took a deep dive into rumba styles, paying tribute to artists like Lola Flores and Celia Cruz, while Flamencas pulled them back toward traditional flamenco roots with collaborators including guitarist Juan Carmona and Galician trio Tanxugueiras. Recent uploads suggest the creative momentum is very much continuing into 2025.
