About
Latexfauna are five guys who ended up in Kyiv from smaller towns across central Ukraine, places like Talne and Skvyra, plus one member originally from Crimea's Kerch. They describe their sound as slow, repetitive indie, almost always locked to around 90 beats per minute, and they lean into that unhurried, lo fi mood deliberately. The band is self deprecating about their musicianship but clearly found an audience: Kyiv's indie crowd picked them up and turned them into a genuinely popular act despite, or maybe because of, their deliberately understated style. One distinctive feature is their use of surzhyk, the informal Ukrainian Russian mixed speech that many of them grew up speaking at home, woven naturally into their lyrics rather than used as a stylistic gimmick.
