Le Nuove Musiche is a Netherlands based ensemble specialising in contemporary classical music that looks back to one of the most turbulent moments in European musical history: the shift from Renaissance to Baroque at the end of the 16th century. The group places the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi at the heart of its repertoire, exploring the bold new style that helped reshape music across the continent. One of the ensemble's most striking features is a reconstructed organ built from historical sources including old scores and depictions found in paintings. The instrument is crafted from open cypress wood pipes, said to produce a sound that is delicate and unusually warm. Performing with two instrumentalists and two sopranos, Le Nuove Musiche draws on music from Italy, England and the Netherlands.
