Le Sacre Du Printemps is Igor Stravinsky's landmark orchestral work, a piece that caused a genuine riot at its Paris premiere in 1914 when the accompanying ballet sent audiences into uproar. Decades on, it remains a genuinely unsettling listen, a raw, ritualistic force driven by jagged rhythms and an almost primal energy that few pieces in the orchestral repertoire can match. Philzuid, conducted by Duncan Ward, pairs the Stravinsky with Toru Takemitsu's percussion concerto From Me Flows What You Call Time, performed by Dutch percussionist Dominique Vleeshouwers, known as DOMNIQ. Vleeshouwers won the first prize, press prize and audience prize at the TROMP International Percussion Competition in 2014, and in 2020 became the first percussionist to receive the Nederlandse Muziekprijs.
