Auckland drum and bass duo Lee Mvtthews have been quietly building one of New Zealand's most compelling electronic music stories since their first release in 2014. The pair met at a DJ course and found common ground fast, eventually naming themselves after their own surnames before tweaking the spelling to avoid confusion with an Irish country singer. Their debut album Bones, dropped in November 2019, earned them the Aotearoa Music Award for Best Electronic Artist and landed them as the first signing to Perth DJ ShockOne's Dark Machine Records. The album's lead single "Takeover" took its time finding its moment, then blew up in New Zealand in 2022 and went triple platinum, proving that good music tends to find its audience eventually.
