Legss are a London art rock band whose whole aesthetic is built around making music feel deliberately off kilter. Formed at Goldsmiths, none of the four members had formal training, and they leaned into that, treating their limitations as a creative tool rather than a problem. Their early EPs, Writhing Comedy and Doomswayers, mixed fragmented post punk guitar with spoken narrative, printed books and social commentary on South London life, graduate labour and what Green called the "doomswayer": a cynical person drifting through a nothing life. They even got a namecheck in Simon Reynolds' afterword to the 2022 edition of Mark Fisher's Ghosts of My Life, a nod to how seriously they engage with Fisher's ideas about culture and late capitalism. Their debut album Unreal, out in September 2025 on the State51 Conspiracy, marks a real step up. Co produced with Louis Grace and Balázs Altsach, it brings in brass and live strings for the first time, pushing toward something almost operatic while keeping the tension and abrasive edge intact. Stereogum named them one of the 40 Best New Artists of 2025, picking out Green's expressive vocal delivery and the band's fluid arrangements as standout qualities.
