About

Also known as: Lemâitre

Lemaitre named themselves after Georges Lemaître, the Belgian priest who first floated the Big Bang theory, only to learn later that "le maitre" also means "the master" in French. The Oslo duo, Ketil Jansen Ditlev Simonsen and Ulrik Denizou Lund, built their name on the Relativity Series of EPs, praised for using all original samples. Relativity 2 topped the Canadian charts and the US iTunes electronic albums category in May 2012, and also landed high in Switzerland, Australia and France. They signed to Astralwerks in 2014, the label home of Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, two of their sonic heroes, and ended up on Porter Robinson's Worlds with the track Polygon Dust. Their EP 1749 is named after a Los Angeles house they used as a low budget studio, once owned by Dr. Dre. Songs of theirs turned up in an Apple iPhone ad and a Facebook anniversary feature, and they even played the first live Minecraft concert. More recently they released the album Substellar in 2021, followed by the EPs RED and BLUE in 2024.
