About
Also known as: Leandro Silva de Santana Improta
Few Brazilian artists can claim a Guinness World Record for the most played song on the planet, but Léo Santana pulled it off with "Rebolation", a track he co wrote for the 2010 Carnaval season while fronting the Bahian band Parangolé. The song swept Angola and Portugal and took home the Troféu Dodô e Osmar for Best Song, cementing his reputation well before he ever went solo. After five years as Parangolé's lead vocalist, he felt his name was strong enough to carry a solo career, and he was right: his 2014 launch show drew 60,000 people in Cajazeiras. His solo work leans into Bahian axé and pagode territory, but he keeps things fresh by pulling in collaborators from different worlds. His debut solo song "Fenômeno" had Angolan swing influences and featured Angolan singer Anselmo Ralph, while later projects brought in names like Wesley Safadão, Marília Mendonça, Thiaguinho, and Anitta. He has kept a steady output of EPs, DVDs, and albums, with the single "Contatinho" alongside Anitta being one of his more recent high profile releases.
