About
Also known as: Le Gammas
Les Gammas are a Bavarian duo, Mark Frank and Jochen Helfert, who came out of Augsburg and found their home on Compost Records, the Munich label. Their sound mixes jazz, funk and disco into house, which sits somewhere between acid jazz and club music, and it slotted neatly into the label's catalogue. They were active across the 1990s and 2000s. Their debut album Exercices De Styles landed on Compost in 2000. Before that came the 12 inch single Chasin' The Double Six in 1999, and they also shared a limited 7 inch with Beanfield, pairing Catalpa with their track Whenever. Most of their output stayed with Compost, which is why the duo is so closely tied to that label's jazzy, dancefloor leaning sound.
