About
Lezaam Beets is a trombonist, composer and bandleader born in Cape Town and now based in Amsterdam, where he leads his own group out of the local jazz scene. His debut album, REFORM, folds contemporary jazz together with South African and West African influences, spoken word, improvisation and a streak of spiritual reflection. It's a personal project, built around ideas of connection, awareness and growth, and about the world around him. The band is young and international: Yehorii Uzva on tenor sax, Mikel Lagasa on piano, Dave Guerreiro on bass and Dane Paris on drums, with Beets on trombone and writing the music. He's also known around Amsterdam as the regular host of the BIRDsessions jam nights.
