Lia Kohl is a Chicago based composer and sound artist whose work pulls in far more than any single instrument. She plays cello as her foundation, but layers in synthesizers, field recordings, toy instruments, radios, and whatever else serves the moment. That curiosity runs alongside genuine technical command, and the combination pushes her work into electroacoustic and experimental territory that feels hard to pin down in the best possible way. A recurring thread in her practice is an interest in audio that captures the fleeting and the overlooked. Field recordings, improvisation, radio transmissions, everyday sounds that most people tune out entirely: these are the raw materials she shapes into something that reaches for the profound.
