About
Chicago trio Lifeguard make the kind of jagged, restless indie rock that feels like it's running on nervous energy. The band, made up of Asher Case, Isaac Lowenstein, and Kai Slater, started self releasing music in 2020 and built enough momentum to land on Matador Records by 2023. Two of their members, Case and Lowenstein, previously played together in Horsegirl before forming this group. Their Matador debut came in the form of two EPs, Crowd Can Talk and Dressed in Trenches, both tracked at the legendary Electrical Audio studio in Chicago with engineer Mike Lust, all within a single year. Dressed in Trenches brought five brand new songs to the table, while Crowd Can Talk had originally been put out by local label Born Yesterday in 2022. Their full length follow up, Ripped and Torn, arrived in 2025 on Matador.
