About
Linda Vink is a Finnish contemporary folk singer who also moves comfortably through the theatrically charged world of Weimar era cabaret and political song. Together with pianist Duco Burgers, she performs a theatre concert built around the work of Bertolt Brecht and his contemporaries Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler, drawing on repertoire from Die Dreigroschenoper, Happy End, and Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny. The programme reaches beyond the well known numbers to include lesser heard material, some of it reminiscent of the legendary recordings of Lotte Lenya. The repertoire she tackles is deliberately provocative: ironic, direct, and unsparing in its portrait of power, money and morality. Brecht wrote music that charms and repels in the same breath, and Vink leans into that tension, treating the songs as something closer to argument than entertainment.
