About
Live Reeds is a reed quintet built around oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone and bassoon, and they like to treat a concert as more than just playing the notes. They have worked with a visual artist who paints live on stage while they play, so the audience watches the music turn into images as it happens. Their repertoire leans heavily on new writing. A lot of what they play was commissioned for the group from young contemporary composers, including Primo Ish Hurwitz, Julian Schneemann, Arjan Linker, Ramin Amin, Fuensanta Méndez and Jaime Peña, and they have also premiered a piece by Max Knigge. Expect chamber music with a lively, physical stage presence rather than a stiff recital.
