About
Loraine James makes electronic music that refuses to sit still. The North London producer has been releasing through Hyperdub since signing with the label, and her 2019 album For You and I put her firmly on the map, topping end of year lists at The Quietus and DJ Mag. Her sound pulls from IDM, experimental electronics, and plenty of unexpected corners, and she has never been shy about pushing it further with each record. Reflection, made during COVID lockdown after she quit teaching to focus on music full time, was praised widely for its genre spanning ambition. She also runs a second project under the name Whatever the Weather, a separate alias that gives her room to explore a different sonic space. Her 2022 album Building Something Beautiful for Me paid tribute to composer Julius Eastman, while Gentle Confrontation in 2023 brought in a strong cast of collaborators including KeiyaA, Marina Herlop, and George Riley. Her latest album, Detached from the Rest of You, arrived in May 2026.
