About
Low Jack, the name Paris producer Philippe Hallais works under, built his reputation by smashing club music and experimental sound together. He first got noticed through a run of dance EPs, with Slow Dance hitting number one on Clone.nl, and his palette stretches from electro in the vein of The Egyptian Lover to darker, tenser techno. His debut album Garifuna Variations came out on New York label L.I.E.S, a piece of sonic fiction built from imagined tales of the Garifuna people, mixing ethnographic recordings with industrial music. Things picked up from there. Imaginary Boogie landed on The Trilogy Tapes, and the album Sewing Machine on In Paradisum drew press from Libération to The Quietus, with Pitchfork's Philip Sherburne calling him one of the more exciting producers to come out of experimental techno. He toured widely, playing CTM, Unsound and Berghain, was the first artist to record for the Red Bull Studio Paris Sessions, and followed up with the album Lighthouse Stories on Modern Love.
