LowDown Brass Band channels the street energy of Chicago through a brass ensemble sound that pulls together hip hop, reggae and soul into something genuinely its own. The group has put out three albums, "The Reel Sessions", "LowDown Nights" and "$itizens of the World", each one pushing their signature style a little further out from the traditions of brass band music. What sets them apart is their willingness to ignore genre boundaries. Rather than leaning on the conventions of any single scene, they carve out a space where a horn section can feel as natural over a reggae groove as it does on a soul shuffle.
