About
Also known as: LTJ Bukem presents, LTJ Buken, l.t.j bukem
LTJ Bukem is the guy who made jungle sound like a late night drive through a jazz club. Trained as a classical pianist, he came up in the early 1990s rave scene and quickly became known for a softer, more atmospheric take on drum and bass, one built on keyboards, live vocals, string arrangements and slow motion breaks. The sound picked up the tag intelligent drum and bass, which caused some arguments in the scene but stuck anyway. His 1995 track "Horizons" was his biggest moment, and the Logical Progression compilations became the blueprint for the style. He also ran the Good Looking label, which gave early platforms to acts like Blame, Seba, Blu Mar Ten, Peshay and Source Direct, plus a downtempo side through the Cookin' label and the Earth compilation series. His debut solo album, the double CD Journey Inwards, only arrived in 2000 and leaned hard into his jazz fusion influences. He has remixed everyone from Herbie Hancock to David Arnold's James Bond theme, and he still DJs around the world under the Progression Sessions and Bukem in Session banners.
