Luca Turilli is the guitarist and co founder of Rhapsody, the symphonic power metal band from Trieste that later became Rhapsody of Fire. Alongside Alex Staropoli, he wrote and arranged all the band's music from 1997 to 2011, helping define what neoclassical metal sounds like for a whole generation of fans. His guitar work leans heavily on sweep picked arpeggios, harmonic minor and phrygian scales, and classically shaped phrasing, with Jason Becker as his biggest acknowledged influence. After parting ways with Rhapsody of Fire, he launched Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, whose 2015 album Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus became a landmark of sorts as the first record in history to be mixed in Dolby Atmos. He later reunited with former bandmates Fabio Lione and Alex Holzwarth for Turilli / Lione Rhapsody, releasing Zero Gravity (Rebirth and Evolution) in 2019 before that project wrapped up in 2023. Away from the heavy stuff, he has also been developing a piano side, citing Chopin, Ludovico Einaudi and Philip Glass as key inspirations there.
