Lucy Dacus built her reputation the hard way, recording her debut album No Burden in Nashville as a favour for a friend's school project, then watching it snowball into a deal with Matador Records. Her Richmond, Virginia roots come through in her indie folk and singer songwriter sound, a style that got sharper and more emotionally precise on her second album Historian, which drew praise from Pitchfork for its nuanced, lasting quality. Home Video followed in 2021, and her fourth album Forever Is a Feeling arrived in 2025, described by critics as her sweetest and most sentimental record yet. Beyond her solo work, Dacus is a third of Boygenius alongside Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, the indie supergroup that won three Grammy Awards in 2024, including Best Alternative Music Album, and made history as the first all female band to win Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. Rolling Stone also ranked her the 213th greatest guitarist of all time in 2023, which for a songwriter often pigeonholed as purely confessional is a satisfying detail.
