About

Luisa Sello is an Italian flautist whose career has taken her from the pit of La Scala under Riccardo Muti to solo stages across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. She has collaborated with an impressive range of artists, from guitarist Alirio Diaz to harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock, and has performed as guest soloist with ensembles including the Slovak Philharmonic and the Salzburger Kammerorchester. Her work with contemporary composers is a standout thread in her career: she has given world premieres of pieces by Salvatore Sciarrino, Franco Donatoni, Aldo Clementi and others, and Valter Sivilotti wrote his flute and string orchestra piece "L'incantesimo della luna nuova" specifically for her. Her discography leans into chamber music with real personality, covering Bach sonatas, Italian belcanto transcriptions and works for flute and guitar, most recorded for Stradivarius. She taught flute at the Conservatory of Trieste for over three decades and holds visiting and adjunct professorships in Vienna and Sofia. In 2022 she was made a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
