About
Also known as: M.O.T.O, Masters of the Obvious
M.O.T.O., short for Masters of the Obvious, has been Paul Caporino's restless creative vehicle since 1981, when he first got the band going in New Orleans. The lineup has shifted constantly over the decades, but one thing stays fixed: Caporino's prolific songwriting, which spans pop, punk, garage rock, metal, soul, new wave and noise, often wrapped in an offbeat and sometimes flat out vulgar sense of humor. His early cassette albums, recorded solo with layered guitars and a Mattel Synsonics drum machine, referenced everyone from the Kinks to Black Flag to Judas Priest, and plenty of those songs ended up in live sets for years. The band built its biggest following as a duo touring behind a string of 7 inch EPs, catching the ear of BBC legend John Peel, who spun their track "Rot Rot Rot" repeatedly on his show. Since then M.O.T.O. has kept moving, literally, from Boston to Chicago to New Orleans and eventually New Hampshire, releasing albums on Criminal IQ Records and Little Teddy Recordings along the way, and even completing a tour of China in 2013.
