About
Maaike Aarts has an unusual résumé for a classical violinist: she spent a short stretch in a heavy metal band. She played on Celestial Season's 1995 releases Solar Lovers and Sonic Orb, which is a long way from the concert hall where she later built her career. That career took her to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, where she was a first violinist from 2004 to 2010. She studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and went on to play first violin in the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Alongside the playing, she moved into the Alexander Technique, a method focused on how musicians use their bodies. She has worked with companies and orchestras in workshops, taught summer courses and coached people preparing for auditions.
