About
Maarten van der Grinten is a Dutch jazz guitarist and composer whose playing carries the influence of his studies under the legendary Wim Overgaauw at the Hilversum Conservatory, where he graduated cum laude in 1987. A grant then took him to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he deepened his work in composition. That combination of strong guitar craft and compositional thinking runs through everything he does. He has been active in a range of projects, including the bands DIG d'DIZ and Dirindi, a duo with fellow guitarist Jesse van Ruller, and the Van der Grinten Herman Quartet alongside saxophonist Benjamin Herman. He also teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where Anton Goudsmit is among the students who have passed through his hands.
