About
Also known as: MacLean Daniel Ayres
Mac Ayres makes the kind of R&B that owes a clear debt to Stevie Wonder, Teddy Pendergrass, and the entire Motown catalogue, but the artist he credits as truly defining his sound is D'Angelo. Specifically, the album Voodoo hit him as a revelation of what music could actually feel like. That sensibility, warm, soulful, and deeply personal, runs through everything he puts out. Based out of Sea Cliff, New York, Ayres is a singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist who built an audience largely through SoundCloud before releasing his debut album Something to Feel in 2018. Juicebox followed in 2019, and his third album Comfortable Enough arrived in 2023. He also pulled together Cloudy in 2024, a compilation of loose tracks from his early SoundCloud years, giving those recordings a proper home at last.
