About
Also known as: Mahalia Burkmar, Mahalia Rose Burkmar
Mahalia's breakthrough moment came when her performance of "Sober" for the YouTube channel Colors went viral in 2017, and she has been building serious momentum ever since. The Leicester raised singer and songwriter blends R&B, soul and alternative sounds in a way that feels genuinely her own, landing her the number one spot on YouTube's Ones to Watch list in 2018. Her 2019 album Love and Compromise, partly inspired by an Eartha Kitt interview her mother showed her, cemented her reputation, and she followed it with recent collaborations including "Simmer" with Burna Boy and "What You Did" featuring Ella Mai. She took home Best Female Act and Best R&B/Soul Act at the 2020 MOBO Awards, earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance, and opened for Adele at Hyde Park. Her second studio album IRL arrived in 2023.
